AKTEX is one of the leading automotive battery manufacturers in Russia. The company is a direct successor of VostSibElement Plant (1937—1998), a major battery producer in the SU. Since 1999, through large Investments, the company have grown to become one of the most active players in the Russian battery market.
AKTEX spearheaded the revival of the Russian SLI battery industry which at its peak in 2003 accounted 65% market share from imported brands. AKTEX batteries continue to be selected for their high quality, not only by automotive users, but also major car manufactures such as AutoVAZ IZHAuto, Severstal-AVTO and state authorities including the Ministry of Defence and the department for Extraordinary Situations (EMERCOM).
AKTEX was one of the first Russian automotive battery manufacturers to pioneer and apply Western practices to marketing its product. Before 1999 the automotive battery in Russia was mostly a commodity product made by old Soviet-built plants.
AKTEX, being a descendant of the former Svirsk Battery Plant, positioned itself as a new kid on the block shall we say, to distance itself from the troubled image of the latter. Some analysts said AKTEX Inc. cut into the Russian market like a hot knife to butter. Active branding allowed us to gain a 7% market share in just 2 years.
