Active paste shedding is one of the major problems limiting the lifecycle of lead-acid SLI batteries. AKTEX battery incorporates the patented solution named SiO
2-effect. It was developed with the

Chemistry Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences for ZVER and DUO EXTRA premium line of batteries. It uses a special additive to active paste Silicone Dioxide (SiO
2) of 99% purity (particle size 10—45 mkm). Silicon Dioxide is a natural product found in several forms including quartz and opal. In pure form, it is a colourless crystal of high hardness and strength (melting temp. — 1713-1728°C). One well known crystalline form is rock crystal. As an additive to active paste, silicon dioxide serves as a perfect bonding solution and strengthens the active paste. One more ingredient of SiO
2-effect technology is a specially treated nitronic synthetic fibre. This treatment creates active H-groups that have colossal adhesion and chemical reaction capabilities serving to strengthen paste bonding and increase paste porosity. As a result, SiO
2-effect increases paste porosity to 60%, thus providing more surface for chemical reaction. Tests of batteries with SiO
2–effect showed 10% increase in cranking power and 50% increase in cycling performance.
